Perth running clubs with a social focus: two to know

If you’re searching for Perth running clubs with a social, low-pressure feel, two names come up again and again: Perth Run Collective and Perth Frontrunners. Both are free to try, both welcome beginners, and both finish with coffee. But they run on different days, in different parts of town, and with a different flavour.

This guide compares the two side by side so you can pick the one that fits your week, your pace and your people. Spoiler: plenty of runners end up doing both.

Information checked October 2026. Club times can change with the seasons, so check each club’s socials before you head out.

What is a social running club?

A social running club is a free or low-cost group that meets at a set time and place, runs (or walks) together, and then hangs around afterwards. There’s usually no timing, no entry fee and no pressure to be fast. The run is the excuse; the coffee and conversation are half the point.

That’s different from a traditional athletics club, which is often built around coaching, racing and competition. Social clubs are the easiest way in if you’re new to running, new to Perth, or just want company on a Sunday morning.

Perth Run Collective at a glance

Perth Run Collective describes itself as a social run movement offering complimentary weekly sessions, with “a variety of distance and pace groups” for runners of all levels. Its Strava club lists two regular sessions, and no registration is needed to join one.

When and where does Perth Run Collective run?

  • Track Tuesday: Tuesdays at 5:45pm, meeting at Subiaco Physiotherapy (Shop 8/531 Hay St, Subiaco). The group jogs from the clinic to Subiaco Oval for an interval session.
  • Sunday Social: Sundays at 7:30am at Clarko Reserve, West Coast Drive, Trigg.
  • Cost: free.
  • Distances: the Sunday Social has been reported with 6km and 8km pace groups. Check the club’s Instagram for the current options.

What’s the vibe?

Sunday at Trigg is the big social session: a coastal run, then coffee, and an ocean plunge for anyone keen. The club’s own line is “We run rain, hail or shine! All welcome, always!”

Track Tuesday is a little more structured. Intervals sound scary if you’ve never done them, but in a group setting everyone runs their own effort, and you’re never more than a lap from the group.

Who suits Perth Run Collective?

  • Northern suburbs and western suburbs runners who can get to Trigg or Subiaco easily.
  • People who like a bigger crowd: the Strava club alone has more than 2,000 members.
  • Runners who want to add a bit of speed work without paying for a coach.
  • Anyone who loves a post-run swim and coffee by the beach.

Perth Frontrunners at a glance

Perth Frontrunners is an LGBTIQA+ and allies running and walking community. It welcomes “people of all sexualities, gender identities, ages, backgrounds, abilities and fitness levels”, and no previous running experience is needed.

When and where does Perth Frontrunners run?

  • Saturday run/walk: Saturday mornings at 8am in Kings Park, meeting near Zamia Cafe (as listed by Visit Perth and other local guides).
  • Distances: local guides list a 5km run or a 3km walk/stroll.
  • Cost: the weekly Saturday session is free and open to non-members, with no pre-registration.
  • Membership: optional, $50 for the current season (ending 1 April 2027 on the club’s site). Members get access to members-only socials and trips.

What’s the vibe?

Frontrunners has one of the best taglines in Perth running: it’s for “strollers, rollers, runners and crap joggers”. Routes are explained before each session, and there’s a coffee meet-and-greet afterwards.

Beyond Saturdays, the club runs social events, regional trips for members and group entries into races such as City to Surf, HBF Run for a Reason and The Bridges fun runs. Its homepage also lists a free Perth Pride Run on Saturday 21 November; check the events calendar for the start time and location.

Who suits Perth Frontrunners?

  • LGBTIQA+ runners and walkers, and their friends and allies.
  • Anyone who wants the option to walk rather than run.
  • Runners who prefer shaded paths and bush tracks to the open coast.
  • People who want a club with a calendar of socials and group race entries.

What about Perth Road Runners?

You might see Perth Road Runners mentioned alongside these two when you search for social running clubs. Be aware that the long-established Perth Road Runners club (perthroadrunners.co.uk) is based in Perth, Scotland. We couldn’t confirm regular, public social sessions for a WA-based group under that name, so we’ve left it out of this comparison. If you run with a Perth (WA) group by that name, let us know and we’ll take a look.

Which social running club is right for you?

Here’s a simple way to decide:

  • Your free morning is Saturday: Perth Frontrunners in Kings Park.
  • Your free morning is Sunday: Perth Run Collective at Trigg.
  • You want a weeknight session after work: Perth Run Collective’s Track Tuesday in Subiaco.
  • You’d like to walk some or all of it: Perth Frontrunners has a walk/stroll option built in.
  • You want a swim after: Trigg with Perth Run Collective.
  • You want a club with members-only trips and group race entries: Perth Frontrunners.

Both are free to try, so the honest answer is: go to one this weekend and the other next weekend. You’ll know which one feels like home.

Will I be the slowest? (And other first-run worries)

This is the number one question people ask before their first club run. The short answer: probably not, and it doesn’t matter if you are.

  • Pace groups exist for this reason. Perth Run Collective offers distance and pace groups, and Perth Frontrunners has a walking option.
  • Nobody is timing you. These are social runs, not races.
  • Say you’re new. Tell whoever is leading that it’s your first time. Clubs usually explain the route before setting off.
  • Arrive 10 minutes early. It’s the easiest time to meet people before everyone splits into groups.
  • Bring water and sun protection. Perth mornings warm up quickly from late spring. Cancer Council WA recommends sun protection whenever the UV index is 3 or above.

If you’d like a gentler start, parkrun is another free option every Saturday at 8am, with no time limit. LiveLighter’s guide to free running and walking groups covers parkrun and Couch to 5K alongside local clubs.

Getting to each session

Clarko Reserve sits on West Coast Drive in Trigg, right on the coast between Scarborough and North Beach. It’s handy if you live in the northern suburbs, and you’ll want to arrive a little early on a sunny Sunday when beach parking fills up.

Track Tuesday starts from Subiaco Physiotherapy on Hay Street, a short walk from Subiaco train station, which makes it an easy after-work option if you’re coming from the city. Kings Park is close to West Perth and the CBD, and the Saturday group meets near Zamia Cafe inside the park.

Other social running clubs in Perth worth a look

If neither of these fits your schedule, Perth has plenty of other free social clubs, including Rise and Run Club in Cottesloe, The Early Ones in Scarborough, 440 Cottesloe, Freo Running Club, Coastal Cadence, Femmi Run Community and Manning Park Trail Runners. You’ll find them all, with links to their socials, in our Perth run club directory.
