What is Perth Colour Frenzy?

Colour Frenzy runs colour fun runs around Australia, and the Perth event is one stop on that tour. Along the course you’ll pass colour stations, a foam and bubble machine and some obstacles, and there are games, giveaways and free professional photos.

The official Perth Colour Frenzy page says you can walk, jog, run, skip, hop or even crawl at your own pace. There’s no timing and no results list. The event also supports local animal rescues in Perth.

How far is it?

The organiser’s page doesn’t state a distance. Running Calendar lists the course as roughly 1.65km for one lap or 5km for three laps, so you can pick what suits you on the day. Confirm the course at race pack collection.

Perth Colour Frenzy tickets: what they cost

The Colour Frenzy tickets page lists three price tiers for the series. It doesn’t show Perth-specific prices, and with a week to go the cheaper tiers may have sold out, so check the page for what’s currently available.

Child (5-12)$17.50$22.50$25.00

Also from the official pages:

  • Kids under 5 are $10.
  • Teams of 6+ get a per-person discount on each tier.
  • Every ticket includes a race pack with an entry wristband, sunglasses, a pouch of colour and a finisher medal.
  • T-shirts ($17.50), white tutus ($15) and caps or bucket hats ($15) are optional extras.
  • Companion Card holders’ carers get in free; show the card in person at entry.
  • Tickets are non-refundable but transferable.

Is this family fun run in Perth in November suitable for kids and dogs?

Yes, with a few rules. Children must attend with a paying adult. The organisers aim to keep the track suitable for prams and wheelchairs, and they suggest putting a garbage bag over the pram to make the clean-up quicker.

Dogs are welcome on a short leash, at the owner’s risk. They need to be fine with crowds, small children and other dogs, or you’ll be asked to leave. Dressing them up is encouraged.

What to wear to a colour run in Perth

Wear something white you don’t mind retiring; white shows the colour best. A few practical tips:

  • Old shoes. Colour and foam get into mesh. Save your good running shoes for parkrun.
  • A hat and sunscreen. Perry Lakes has shaded lawns, but you’ll be out in the open between 9:30am and 11am in a Perth spring. Check the Bureau of Meteorology Perth forecast the day before.
  • A towel or old sheet for the car seat on the way home.

Light rain won’t stop the event. The FAQ says it goes ahead in scattered showers, and only storms that put people at risk would see it rescheduled.

Protecting your phone and eyes

The Colour Frenzy safety data sheets page describes the colour and foam as non-toxic, and the organisers only allow their own non-staining products. Still, powder in the eyes or in a phone’s charging port isn’t fun.

  • Wear the sunglasses. They come in your race pack. If you’d rather a pair that stays put while you jog, the Perth Running Clubs shop has a few sports options.
  • Bag your phone. A zip-lock bag keeps powder out of ports and speakers, and you can usually still use the touchscreen through it.
  • Close your mouth and eyes at the colour stations. A quick pause as you pass through is enough.
  • Got asthma or allergies? The organiser’s pages don’t cover this, so email tickets@colourfrenzy.com.au before the day if you have concerns.

Getting to Perry Lakes

Perry Lakes Reserve is an 80-hectare reserve in Floreat run by the Town of Cambridge. The Town of Cambridge lists shaded lawns, paths, picnic and barbecue facilities and a public toilet. The organisers haven’t published parking details; their FAQ says to check the Colour Frenzy Facebook page for parking or traffic updates before you leave home.

After the colour: your next step

If Colour Frenzy gets you moving, the next step costs nothing. Perry Lakes parkrun is a free 5km held every Saturday at 8am at the same reserve, and its page invites people of any pace to come along. We compare it with other local courses in our guide to Perth parkrun courses.

Prefer company? Several free social clubs welcome all paces. Perth Frontrunners in Kings Park calls itself home to “Strollers, Rollers, Runners”, and Rise and Run Club Perth meets in Cottesloe at 6am on Fridays. Browse the full Perth run club directory to find a group near you.
