Why Perth’s running community has become so social
Perth running community social events have quietly become one of the easiest ways to make friends in this city. On any given week you’ll find groups jogging along the coast at sunrise, looping Kings Park before coffee, and finishing an evening run at a brewery. Most are free, most welcome walkers, and nobody is checking your pace.
This guide rounds up the social side of running in Perth: the run clubs, pub and brewery runs, coffee-and-dip crews and community events behind the #perthrunning hashtag. You’ll find when and where groups meet, what each one suits, and how to turn up for your first run without feeling like the new kid.
Information checked October 2026. Run clubs change times and meeting spots often, so check each group’s socials before you go.
What is a social run club?
A social run club is a free or low-cost group that meets at a set time and place to run or walk together, usually followed by coffee, a swim or a drink. Unlike athletics clubs, there’s normally no membership, no timing and no racing. The run is the reason to show up; the chat afterwards is often the reason people come back.
The appeal is easy to see. HBF points out that sharing exercise with like-minded people is good for your mental health, and that a group can keep you turning up on the days you’d rather stay in bed. LiveLighter’s guide to free walking and running clubs in Perth makes the same point: plenty of these groups welcome you whatever your fitness level.

Sunrise, swim, coffee: the coastal crews
If there’s one format that defines the #perthrunning feed, it’s the beach run followed by a dip and a flat white. Perth’s coastline makes it almost too easy.
Cottesloe: Rise + Run and The 440
Rise + Run meets on Friday mornings at Il Lido in Cottesloe. So Perth describes the format as 40 minutes at your own pace, followed by a swim, coffee and a chat, and dogs are welcome. It’s a gentle way to end the working week.
The 440 runs on Saturdays at 5:55am in Cottesloe and has a reputation for being “running optional”. You can run, walk or simply show up for the ocean dip and the company.
Trigg and Scarborough: Perth Run Collective and The Early Ones
Perth Run Collective is one of the bigger social groups in the city. Its Social Sundays start at 7:30am from Clarko Reserve in Trigg with 6km and 8km pace groups, then coffee and an ocean plunge. It also runs Track Tuesdays in Subiaco for anyone wanting a bit of speed work.
Further north, The Early Ones run along the Scarborough coast on Sundays (dates vary, so check their Instagram). Expect around 40 minutes at your own pace and a mixed crowd of ages and abilities.
Fremantle: Coastal Cadence
Coastal Cadence meets in Fremantle at 5:45am on Tuesdays and Fridays, with an optional swim afterwards. It suits early risers south of the river who want a midweek routine.
Pub runs and brewery runs: the after-work option
Not a morning person? Perth has a growing evening scene where the run finishes at a pub or brewery. It’s a good fit if you’d rather swap after-work drinks for a run followed by after-work drinks.
- Freo Running Club: Wednesdays at 6pm from a South Fremantle brewery, with a post-run beer for those who want one.
- Perth Pub Runners: RunHub lists a free Monday 6pm social run and walk from Seasonal Brewery in Maylands, for all abilities, with meals and drinks afterwards. Check the group’s Facebook page for the latest details.
- Subiaco Run Club: listed by Re Your Run as an easy-paced Wednesday 6pm run in Subiaco.
A quick tip: eat something light in the afternoon, carry a small bag for your keys and phone, and treat the post-run drink as optional. Plenty of people stick to a soft drink and still enjoy the social side.
Running groups for specific communities
Some of Perth’s most welcoming groups were set up for people who didn’t feel at home in traditional running clubs.
Perth Frontrunners (LGBTIQA+ and allies)
Perth Frontrunners describes itself as Boorloo’s community of LGBTIQA+ and ally “Strollers, Rollers, Runners & Proudly Crap Joggers”. The weekly Saturday morning run or walk is free, needs no registration and finishes with coffee. Annual membership is $50, but you don’t need it to join the Saturday sessions.
The club also highlights accessibility, saying sport should be accessible to everyone, especially people with disabilities. Its free Perth Pride Run is listed for Saturday 21 November.
Femmi Run Community (women)
Femmi Run Community is a women-focused group that meets on Friday mornings in Kings Park for 4-6km runs. Visit Perth’s run club roundup lists the Eternal Flame as the meeting point, with city views thrown in.
Trail beginners
Perth Trail Series hosts social trail runs in Kings Park on Thursday evenings, and Manning Park Trail Runners in Spearwood has a kids’ group as well as an adult run, according to LiveLighter. Both are good stepping stones if you’re curious about trails but nervous about getting lost.
Perth running community social events worth adding to your calendar
Run clubs are the weekly rhythm. Community events are where the wider #perthrunning crowd comes together.
- parkrun: free, timed 5km events every Saturday at 8am across Perth. Claisebrook Cove parkrun on the city waterfront asks you to register once before your first run and bring your barcode, and welcomes all paces.
- Winter Cup Series #4, the Pancake Run: a 3 x 5km cross country relay in Kings Park on Sunday 18 October 2026, run by UWA Athletics Club and the WA Marathon Club. According to the Athletics West event page, it’s open to the public and you don’t need to be in an athletics club. There are pancakes.
- Perth Pride Run: Perth Frontrunners’ free Pride Run on Saturday 21 November 2026.
Will I be the slowest? How to choose your first social run
It’s the most common worry, and the answer is almost always “it doesn’t matter”. Most of these groups run at your own pace, split into pace groups, or welcome walkers outright. Here’s how to pick one:
- Start with your schedule. Early riser? Try a coastal sunrise run. Evenings suit you better? A brewery run might be the one.
- Look for “own pace” or pace groups. Rise + Run, The Early Ones and Perth Run Collective all mention this.
- Check the vibe on Instagram. Photos tell you a lot about who turns up and what the post-run routine looks like.
- Message the organiser. Most are happy to tell you where to stand and who to look for on your first day.
- Bring a friend. It makes the first visit far less awkward.
What to bring
- Comfortable shoes you’ve already run or walked in
- Water, especially from November onwards
- Cap and sunscreen (the summer sun gets strong early)
- Swimmers and a towel for the coastal groups
- A few dollars or a card for coffee
Need a running belt, cap or hydration bottle? You’ll find a few beginner-friendly picks in our running shop.
